The goal of the discipline system is to teach and encourage positive behaviors in the classroom. To be effective, it’s important to incorporate positive reinforcement when students make good choices, as well as consequences when they do not. Each student has a clothespin that will be on a multi-level class chart. The chart serves as a visual reminder for students to make good choices throughout the day.
GREEN: READY TO LEARN: All students will begin the day on this section. Acceptable and “normal” classroom behavior for the average student usually includes a warning or two.
YELLOW: MAKE BETTER CHOICES: If a student needs to be re-directed more than a couple of times, he/she will move the clip to this section of the chart. Students are encouraged to identify problem behavior and to make a different choice.
ORANGE: TEACHER’S CHOICE: Any students who has behaved in a way that is disruptive to the learning of others as well as themselves.
RED: PARENT CONTACT: . It should also be noted that any student who is physically aggressive towards another person will be automatically moved to the red strip, in addition to any building/district-defined consequences.
All students begin each day with their clip on green. There are those few students in each classroom that rarely need redirection, and those students will have the opportunity to move their clip all the way up to PINK. However, please note that PINK is only there to recognize a full day of EXCEPTIONAL behavior. This means that the student exceeded expectations for setting a positive example for others throughout the ENTIRE day. At the end of each day, your student will color the calendar in their homework folder with the color they ended on that day.
